What Each Type Is Actually For
Glass is where most quotes differ, and where most money is wasted. Below is what each type does, in plain terms.
What We Usually Specify Where

Choosing Glass
Where each type earns its price, and where it does not.

An insulated double-glazed unit — two panes with a sealed air gap — cuts outside noise by up to 50% against single 5mm float. Laminated glass improves it further because the PVB interlayer damps vibration.
Is toughened glass necessary for uPVC doors?
We fit it as standard on doors and any glazing near floor level. Toughened glass is four to five times stronger and breaks into blunt granules instead of shards, which matters at door height.
What glass should a bathroom window have?
Obscured — frosted, reeded or patterned. It passes daylight and blocks sight, and it costs little more than plain float.
Does tinted or reflective glass reduce heat?
Yes, noticeably on west-facing walls. A reflective or tinted outer pane cuts solar gain, and in a double-glazed unit the effect compounds with the air gap.
Can I change the glass later without changing the frame?
For single glazing, usually yes — the same frame accepts 5mm and 6mm panes. Moving to a 24mm double-glazed unit needs a deeper sash, so it is better decided before fabrication.
Is double glazing worth it in Tamil Nadu?
Room by room, yes: road-facing bedrooms, studies and air-conditioned rooms. For internal courtyards, kitchens and bathrooms it is money better spent elsewhere.
