uPVC Hopper Windows Explained
A hopper window is hinged at the bottom and tilts into the room at the top. Air enters over the head of the sash and rises, so a room ventilates without a direct draught at head height and without anyone outside being able to see in through the gap.
That combination of airflow and privacy is why hoppers are the standard answer for bathrooms, WCs, box rooms and basements. Because the sash opens inward, nothing projects outside — useful where a wall faces a boundary or a narrow gap.
We fabricate hoppers with restrictor arms so the tilt stops at a safe angle, and almost always with obscured, frosted or reeded glass. They can be coupled below a fixed panel to give a taller opening with only the lower section operable.

A hopper is hinged at the bottom and tilts inward; an awning is hinged at the top and pushes outward. Hoppers give privacy and inward-rising airflow, awnings shed rain and suit high-level openings.
Are hopper windows good for bathrooms?
They are the type we fit most often in bathrooms. The tilted sash lets steam out at the top, nobody can see in through the gap, and obscured glass finishes the privacy.
Does an inward-opening sash get in the way?
Only at the top, and the restrictor arm limits the tilt. Since hoppers are usually fitted high on the wall — above a WC or a washbasin — the tilted sash sits above head height.
Can hopper windows be fitted with mosquito mesh?
Yes, on the outside face, since the sash tilts inward. It stays in place permanently and needs no handling.
