uPVC French Doors Explained
French doors are two glazed leaves meeting at the centre with no fixed post between them, so opening both gives you the entire span clear. Closed, they read as a single wall of glass with a slim central meeting line.
The absence of a mullion is the appeal and the engineering challenge: the leaves lock into each other with a shootbolt, and the frame carries steel reinforcement to hold the geometry over years of use. That is worth insisting on, because a sagging French door is unmistakable.
Fully glazed leaves are standard, with toughened glass throughout, and outward opening is usual so no floor space is lost inside. Fly mesh can be fitted as a pair of hinged screens on the outside face.

French doors swing open to clear the entire span but need floor or outside space to swing into. A sliding door needs no swing space but always keeps one leaf across part of the opening.
Do uPVC French doors sag over time?
Not when the frame and leaves are steel reinforced and the hinges are rated for the glass weight — which is how we build them. Sagging is what happens when an unreinforced profile carries a fully glazed leaf.
Can French doors be fitted with mosquito mesh?
Yes, as a pair of hinged mesh screens on the outside face, so you can keep insects out with the glass leaves open.
Are French doors secure enough for an external wall?
With multi-point locking on the active leaf, shootbolts top and bottom on the passive leaf, and toughened glass, yes. For isolated sites we also offer laminated glass.
